Surely, where the hell is India heading to? If you have been following the newspapers for sometime, you would have noticed the increasing frequency of offenses against women in India among the so-called high class people.
Theres was a huge arrest of people engaged in a rave party at pune few months ago and now we have a case of molestation at Juhu beach at the eve of the new year, I had to utter to myself with great disgust “What a fucking great way to start the new year with?”
A decade ago all this was so alien to our country and suddenly social offenses, especially against women or on the rise. What is the cause??? Well surely its not one but many many perfectly in synergy to spoil the youth of India.Let me just start with a few.
Aping the west, ah always the mantra of youth,Well don’t get me wrong, I’m not thankar bachan types I wear jeans,drink coke. That is not what I’m talking about its cultural aping. My english teacher used to say that it wont be long when we start hearing statements like
” Your children and my children are playing with our children”
in India. I surely wont be much surprised.
The next major reason would be the boom in the IT/ITES industry,the money and stress levels associated with it.I’m not blaming the software professionals or money mindedness as I represent them but where exactly do some of these people go wrong?. You study you have the right to earn, but please remember you earn for your well being not for destroying your own self. Its perfectly justifiable that the work pressure is very high with dead lines looming and relaxation is highly needed, but stop partying around please, there are innumerable number of ways of relaxing, listening to music,learning a fine art for instance. Even partying isn’t wrong as long as you stick to the limits.
If I may be permitted to add, the growing generation gap between today’s youth and their parents is another cause. I have been noticing, the respect youth give for their parents views these days is degrading. We tend to dismiss the views of parents as we deem them inapplicable in the current times but what is true is that, parents are not fools and what they say is valid, at least the psychology of it, is very much valid in these times. Strangely, whats more surprising is that, the parents themselves tend to alienate themselves from their wards due to various other reasons ranging from complexes to fears, which must be surely treated.
The most feasible solution will have to be the people themselves have to know their social responsibilities and behave themselves for their betterment.
